The Challenge: Develop a rapid prototype for a new kind of portfolio management system

The HumanLogic Solution

To rapidly create a prototype for customer testing, HumanLogic created an interactive low-fidelity prototype using hand-drawn sketches and a rapid- prototyping tool.
Our design goals included a simple,clear and easy-to-use interface to illustrate the effects of changing interest rates on the value of a portfolio.

The user experience also needed to allow a user to manipulate interest rate information and see the resultant effects on value in real time. The changes in interest rates were specified by direct manipulation of the Zero Coupon Curve (plotted as maturity vs. interest rate).The curve could be fitted to certain behaviors to allow a user to see the effect of changes in short-term or long-term rates.The interface also enabled visualization of the effect of curve manipulation on sector-specific values, including the ability to see sector return decomposition in real-time

The Results

This prototype was used to sell an interface for system tools to Reuters' clients (such as Goldman Sachs), showing the possible uses of Reuters technology and financial data.
